For centuries, the realm of spiritual communication—mediumship, intuitive messages, psychic insight—has been misunderstood and misrepresented. In many communities, particularly those influenced by dogmatic religious teachings or societal skepticism, these experiences are often labeled as “demonic,” “evil,” or something to fear.

But here’s the truth: spiritual gifts are not something to fear—they are something to embrace. And the fear surrounding them? It usually stems from a lack of understanding.

At Rise and Roar Healing, part of our mission is to help break the stigma and fear that surrounds spiritual insight. Let’s dive into the truth behind spiritual communication, explore its history, examine the scientific evidence, and most importantly, reclaim its powerful role in healing and human connection.

Where Does the Fear Come From?

Fear is often a product of unfamiliarity. When something doesn’t fit neatly into the framework we’ve been taught—especially within rigid belief systems—it’s easier to label it as “bad” or “wrong” than to explore its deeper meaning. Many people have been told that anything “psychic” or “intuitive” must be associated with darkness. But these abilities are natural extensions of human consciousness. We are energetic beings, and intuition, empathy, and communication with spiritual energy are part of our original design—not supernatural, but super-natural.

A Brief History of Spirituality and Intuitive Gifts

Spiritual communication has existed in every culture since the beginning of time:

  • Indigenous cultures around the world honor medicine men, shamans, and spirit communicators.

  • Ancient Egypt practiced dream interpretation, energy healing, and connections with the divine realm.

  • Greek philosophers, like Socrates and Plato, spoke of inner voices and daemons (originally meant as divine guides, not evil beings).

  • In the Bible, prophets received visions, heard divine voices, and channeled wisdom from spiritual sources.

So when did it become something to fear? Unfortunately, during the rise of religious institutions, many natural spiritual gifts were labeled as “witchcraft” or heresy. What was once honored became dangerous, leading to centuries of suppression, especially for women, healers, and mystics.

Energy, the 3D World, and Spiritual Communication: The Science of Connection

Now let’s get grounded in science. We live in a quantum world—a world made of energy. According to quantum physics, everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies. Your body, your thoughts, your emotions, and yes—your intuition—are forms of energy.

Here’s what science has shown:

  • The HeartMath Institute has proven that the heart sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart. The electromagnetic field of the heart can be detected several feet away from the body, and it changes based on emotional and intuitive states.

  • Stanford physicist Dr. William Tiller has researched how human consciousness affects the structure of physical reality—showing that intention can influence matter.

  • Dr. Gary Schwartz at the University of Arizona conducted peer-reviewed studies on psychic mediums and found that many produced accurate information beyond what could be explained by chance or cold reading.

  • EEG (electroencephalogram) and fMRI studies show that during states of meditation, trance, and intuitive channeling, brain wave activity shifts into high-theta and gamma states—similar to states of insight, creativity, and peak consciousness.

These aren’t signs of demonic possession. They’re signs of expanded human awareness.

The Value of Spiritual Awareness and Intuition

What if, instead of fearing our intuition, we welcomed it?

What if listening to that inner voice, paying attention to signs, and connecting with loved ones in spirit were simply natural expressions of our multidimensional existence?

Spiritual awareness:

  • Empowers self-trust and personal insight

  • Heals emotional wounds that logic alone can’t reach

  • Helps people feel less alone and more connected to a greater purpose

  • Brings peace and closure through mediumship and messages from passed loved ones

  • Enhances mental health by integrating the unseen parts of ourselves—our spirit, our soul

Opening the Door Instead of Closing the Mind

It’s time to shift the conversation.

Spiritual communication is not something to be feared—it’s something to be explored, nurtured, and understood. The more we open ourselves to the truth of our energetic nature, the more empowered, balanced, and whole we become.

At Rise and Roar Healing, we believe in the power of merging science and spirit. We honor both empirical understanding and sacred knowing. Through intuitive sessions, reiki, mediumship, and holistic therapy, we guide clients into deep healing and expanded awareness.

Energy healing isn’t always explained in Western terms, which leads to fear-based assumptions, especially if people associate spirituality only with religious worship.

Scientific Evidence & Reasoning That Reiki Is Not Demonic or Dangerous

1. Reiki is Non-Invasive and Relaxation-Based

Reiki is non-religious, non-invasive, and involves light touch or no touch at all. Practitioners are trained to channel energy, not from spirits or entities, but from what’s called “universal life force”—akin to Chi or Prana.

A 2010 systematic review in the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine found Reiki to be effective in reducing pain, anxiety, and depression, all of which are positive therapeutic outcomes—not signs of possession or harm.

2. NIH Recognizes Reiki as a Complementary Health Practice

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) classifies Reiki under complementary and integrative health practices and acknowledges its use in hospitals to support healing, reduce stress, and enhance quality of life.

3. No Scientific Evidence Suggests Reiki Invites Evil Forces

Reiki has been studied in multiple peer-reviewed journals (see below), and not one single clinical or psychological study links Reiki to negative psychological effects like hallucinations, psychosis, or spiritual possession.

The American Psychological Association (APA) has also never published evidence suggesting Reiki is psychologically harmful or spiritually dangerous.

4. Hospitals and Hospice Programs Use Reiki

Reiki is used in prestigious institutions like:

Cleveland Clinic

Mayo Clinic

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

These institutions would not use a practice associated with harm or “demonic” influence.

Peer-Reviewed Scientific Studies Supporting Reiki's Safety

Here are a few peer-reviewed articles you can reference:

Midilli, T. S., & Edeer, A. (2015). "Effects of Reiki on Pain and Vital Signs When Applied to the Incision Area of the Body After Cesarean Section Surgery." Holistic Nursing Practice.

Outcome: Significant pain reduction and no negative side effects.

Thrane, S., & Cohen, S. M. (2014). "Effect of Reiki therapy on pain and anxiety in adults: An in-depth literature review of randomized trials with effect size calculations." Pain Management Nursing.

Outcome: Consistent anxiety and pain reduction, no evidence of psychological harm.

Díaz-Rodríguez, L., et al. (2011). "Physiological changes after Reiki treatment: A study of heart rate variability, cortisol levels and body temperature." Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.

Outcome: Improved physiological relaxation markers—no negative findings.

Conclusion: Reiki is Safe, Not Spiritual Warfare

There is no scientific evidence that Reiki invites in demonic or harmful energies. This idea is rooted in fear, misunderstanding, and religious misinterpretations, not in research, clinical experience, or bioenergetic science.

So next time you hear the word “psychic,” “medium,” or “spirit,” take a breath.

Ask yourself: What if this isn’t something evil… but something sacred I just haven’t yet understood? Ready to explore spiritual communication in a safe and empowering way?
